The latest issue of PBM has a short article on winterizing. They suggest fogging the motor BEFORE changing the oil. The reason they give is that you don't want even slightly used oil sitting in the bottom of your crankcase.

I have always fogged AFTER I change the oil because I don't want old oil left in the bearings etc all winter.

Any thoughts?

I read that also,not sure how much difference it makes, but I have always took mine to the dealer to get it winterized after changing my fluids, so I know they run it to fog and antifreeze it after I do the oil change...

If you fog after changing the oil, aren't you contaminating the fresh oil you just put in?

What is winterizing?

The difference between doing it before or after is so small that it really doesn't matter.

I agree, your probably splitting atoms between doing it before or after fogging. I know one boater that lets his old oil sit all winter and then changes it in the spring and has been doing it like that for 10 years with no problems that I am aware of. I don't agree with it though, but maybe its not that huge of a deal? For the record though, I do mine before layup.
