Default Do I need to lift the engine out????

Do I need to lift the engine out to change to performance exhaust system ex Gill/Hardin or Revolution Performance exhaust???

I have a 242 SS 1988 with a 1997 454 330 hp stock exhaust

What is the best choice of performance exhaust system?

CP Performance Gill/Hardin system us 1999,- incl. full instalation pack. Should increase aprox 20 Hp and better torque. (Claimed by seller)

or

Revolution Marine Offshore performance exhaust us 1500,- include full instalation pack. Should increase aprox 30 -35 hp
Claimed by seller)

Innputs, oppiniones are appreciated

Pull the motor, makes it very easy to hang the new pipes, you can also check for other problems with a 1988 boat, check drive coupler for wear, check mounting hardware, replace your raw water pumps while it out , starter etc...- You will be happy you did

What James said makes sense, but to answer your question, no you do not need to lift the engine out.

I have the Gil set-ups on my motors and like them. I have a pic floating around somewhere, if I can find it I'll post it.

I don't know anything about the Revolution system.

Are the claimed HP increase of 20-35 really true if changing to a performance exhaust system on a 330 HP ?
Do you want to change exhaust because the current exhaust is in a bad condition and it really needs to be replaced soon, or is the current exhaust in good condition and you only want to change to gain more power ?

Hi my Scandinavian nabor, how are you?

Well first question I realy do not know, if the increase is really true. I have been in contact with several suppliers and they all claim that there are around 20 - 40 hp gain by changing from stock to performance exhaust, depending on wich one u choose. Also that you get better torque and that crusing speed and top spedd should increase. But how mouch is hard to say, they have mentioned 2-4 mph but hard to say. The different performance exhaust are between 60 to 80 pounds lighter. (I have of course informed that my engine is 454 330 hp bravo 1)

I belive that my stock exhaust are more or less ok, but the exhoust gasket on the left side is broken. So it need to be changed, I realy do not the exact status of the manifoild and rasors.

I guess I would with my new Mirage 21 pluss would like to see
some more mph and power

Pictures of hardin/gil and the revolution performance exhaust

I am not sure witch one I would go with but, remember you need to relocate your oil filter, shift interrupter and cables and anything else.
