My Pachanga has a 383 with a bravo I 24P. Does anyone have any experience with this motor? Any reliability issues? Can the computer be played with to gain a few horses? I have been happy with it so far. Just curious what could be done to keep it interesting.

You need about 15hp to gain 1 mph on the top end, so it probably doubtful that there's much to gain with an ecm tune.
Make sure you have the right prop turning the right WOT rpm and have it labbed as needed.

Headers or SM exhaust will help to wake it up a bit along with reducing the weight. But we arent talking big hp or speed #s here. Probably around 20-30hp at best and 1-3mph. However the torque would improve along with midrange a bit. We have done it on customers set ups with the same engine. Also Depending on your X dim a shorty may grab you another couple mph.. After that a blower.. We are actually doing one on a Merc 383 currently..

Kep us posted on the blower install Jamie. As for the exhaust, I put Stainless Marine on my t350magMPI's and the gain was minimal for the $5k....about 2 mph @ best. However, it was neccessary bcause the stock stuff is junk and was rusty. The weight savings however is substantial and the boat sits and rides higher; that's worth the price alone, but 2mph is not bad either.

Thanks for the info. If I were to put a blower on my engine is the relability of the engine compromised? My engine has around 160 hours on it now. I am just guessing, but I bet putting a blower on this engine would be a far larger project than simply bolting it on. I would love to do it, I just don't want to go out on the lake for 10 hours and be out of the water for a season.
I have heard that the procharger is the easiest on stock powerplants. Is this what most people in my situation are adding?
Thanks for your input! This is a great forum.
