Anybody have a GPS that they take from thier car to thier boat that they really like.
I am looking to buy one and I hate the one I had. I bought it along time ago and its B/W screen and hard to use/ read.
Need some input from owners.
Waterproof would be good too.

Garmin gpsmap478, comes preloaded with marine and auto map software, marine and sandbag type mount for your car, built in antenna, etc. great unit. retials for $1000, but you can get a better deal online, I paid $800 about 6 months ago. If you are on a lake get the 378, same unit, but with lake software instead of offshore.

Lowrance iWay, its got some pretty cool features. Built in hard drive to store music and fm modulated. The one i looked had some pretty detailed street and marine maps as well as satellite images. Very cool piece, this will be my next gps.

I have never seen so many GPS units as there are available this year.
Its crazy does everybody make 10 different GPS models these days. Its enough to drive you crazy.
I will check those out.
Thanks, nothing like having used one for while to know its good. Theres so much technology out there its hard to keep up and its outdated so fast.

I have the 478 also. I think it's great. Also has a slot for memory card. I loaded the fresh water lakes on it. We go to Lake Harris chain of lakes a few times every year and I loaded that from my PC onto the card.

I have the 478 as well. AWESOME unit, works flawless in both the boat and car. I paid $750 (after $250 rebate at West Marine) back two years ago.
Screen is nice and bright on the boat, voice guidance in the car works great and is really accurate.
