I wonder if it is the same camshaft in an 496 HO mercruiser vs 496 HO volvo ? Can i put an mercruiser 496 HO camshaft in
an Volvo 496 HO ?

Yes. The core engine block and bottom end parts are the same. differences will be raw water pumps, heat exchangers, exhaust, accessory layout etc...

Of course that is to say that they will be the same year for year because there were different versions in some years.
