This is an older womans car. 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII Supposedly maintained under contract by the dealer. 1st oil change at 13K! Tranny replaced,3 times for brake work! I had a 96 and put over 70K on it and didn't have to do anything except a waterpump and alternator! No brakework either!

Only drove 6-7K miles a year. Everybody knows shorter, in-town miles are a lot harder on a car than highway miles. My 10 year old car with 277K is a testimony to that. And based on the rest of the history, I'd say for certain she had at least two oil changes prior to the first documented one at 13K, probably one shortly after buying the car and another around 6K miles.

Just because the first documented oil change on the car fax is at 13k, doesn't mean it hasn't had the oil changed. Obvoiously if it is self changed or done at an independent shop/jiffy lube type place it won't be on the car fax. As far as the other things go, the brakes could be due to a 2 footed driver always holding a foot on the brake pedal. It seems like a lot of older people do that. And with the transmission, sometimes they just are screwed up and need replaced. It could have been a bad one from the factory and had an unusually short life.

The part that scares me about the oil changes is this car was bought(I think) under a lease with all service included. The daughter is selling the car. Do dealers sometimes forget to record all services done to a car. The daughter was adiment about the dealer performing all the maintainance. She also called me a liar when I presented her with the carfax details. YIKES

If I was looking at a car driven by a younger person I would automatically assume the car had the sh*t run out of it. I guess the back brakes going so quick could be from leaving the parking brake on...but the driver would have to be blind and deaf. The other reason could be caused by the traction control system which is peformed by the brakes.

Looks like jack rabbit starts and stops to me! LOL...My Great Grandmother used to scare the sh*t outta everybody(according to the family tales). Salesman talked her into a 65 or 66 T-bird with the twin 4BBL Bigblock. She didn't let any grass grow under her feet!

Could be that routine maintenance didn't use to get logged in carfax, hard to say. Back brakes needing done could be from a bad design, I had a early 90's pontiac that I had to do the rear brakes on all the time because the pins would sieze and the caliper couldn't slide. Carfax is only one part of it, carefully looking the car over should tell another part.

I have seen some cars that were painted at Ray Charles body shop and show a clean car fax. Alot of shops dont report to carfax. Car fax is just a guide at best. Look at the car and make a judgement. How much does she want for it?

I probably should buy it. Kelly Bluebook trade in is 3K in Excellent. (retail 57) She is in the high 4's. Nice ones are bringing in the 4's, but many are well under 3. Kindda like...I guess I would pay more for 1 with lower milage. On the fence about an LSC because of the headlight issue. I like the LSC better but the headlights are an issue now.(this is not an LSC) Also didn't know it was a northern car until I did a carfax. Car is forsale in the SE. The air suspension is an issue with all of them and winter salt does take it's toll.

Va Beach area is not Northern.
Haven't seen salt on the road here for 3 - 4 years.

It looks like it was well maintained
