Default Props in or out on a Baja

I know this has been discussed a hundred times, but I was wondering the effects on a Baja. Seems all hull respond differently. I was thinking of trying it tomorrow. I know they don't dock as well. But a couple MPH would be worth it.

That is something only you can determine. As for the speed we typically saw 1.5 to maybe 2 mph gain if your currently running B1 4 blades with a stock x-dim and setup on a 35. Not sure what you have changed-if anything in that area.

IMO, if your running around on flat water with little wind and current, the speed gains do offset the extra work around the docks. Spinning in requires more driver input running in rough water so the boat is more "fun" to drive.

Labbed props are not as efficient in reverse. So if your running labbed props and spinning in it makes the dockside manners worse yet. My boat has an X-dim 2.5 inches above Baja's norm with 31" centers. This in combination with labbed props and spinning in made the boat VERY lazy around the docks.

Now if you increase blade surface area by going to a 5 blade, the dockside manners will come back spinning in. The 5 blades require a very high x-dim to be effective for top speed on our boats though.

There is only one way to know for sure and if you have bravo drives it is very easy to find out. Just switch props and try it. The shifters will be backwards.
Let us know what you think.

Dude,

You know what I thought about spinning the props in on my 29 OL. The boat was "fun" enough to drive on Lake Erie, and spinning in just made it TOO fun.....I went back to spinning them out.

Mine is a little over 1 mph faster turning in,
and that's where I run them.

On my 29 it was only worth .1 mph and the boat
really didn't seem to handle as well, so I left them out.

Docking isn't as good when running in,
but what I've found is if you
trim up the drives slightly positive, this helps a bit.
( helps direct thrust back under the boat in reverse,
instead of tossing it up towards the transom/keel area)

My big old "notched" transom on the 35 hull should also help in reverse????

So windy conditions makes it tuff when docking?
Now on the east coast the wind is greater.( lived on the west coast of Fl-Gulf)
Just this past weekend I had about 6 boats ahead of me in a small area. The wind was about 15mph. It was blowing the 35 around some. I had to keep my hands on the sticks.
Still spinning out....but want to try in. Water is never glass on the east coast of Florida....well up in the treasure coast area.

Well I didn't get a chance to try it today. I did run the boat with the new labbed propellers. Top speed 81gps with 30's. But it took some time to get it there. The 30's have a little too much cup. Could only get to 5100. Really cold at the lake today. Lots of wind, three people in the boat.

I had a 32 outlaw with boxes and notched transom (one off). spinning in was good for 2 mph. Backing was bad. My biggest problem with spinning in was the boat ran with more bow lift which at LOTO caused a rougher ride. I ended up switching to out for the midrange ride and backing which is 99% of the usage.
