Bahamas is a decent size chain of islands but figure 60 miles to get over to the closest island from the USA.
Lauderdale to Bimini is 46 miles
Palm Beach to West End is about 55 miles if I recall correctly.
So at 30 MPH you are there in 2 hours. Run 60 MPH you get there in less than an hour.

To Bimini from FLL or Miami it is 45 miles.
Your problem is more weather and seas in the gulfstream.
Nassau is 165 miles. The Mut does that averaging 25 mph but you don't want to temp mother nature also once in the Bahamas you can expect lousy gas or diesel that sells for $6 a gallon at least plus about $350 just for a landing fee.
It is beautiful but plan ahead and get ready to fork over. Also bringing a weapon on board is complicated which for me makes it less than desirable to go.

As said weather is the issue, not how far it is. Any winds out of the north and gulf can be miserable. During winter months I have found that the weather window is much smaller and you have to get home. Go in late spring and summer and your chances of a smoother ride is increased. Bimini from Miami is close but I consider it a border town. Just behind Bimini is the Berry Islands that is nice. I can give you lat and longs to the Berry's in the shallows behind Bimini for a smooth ride.

Full prices have dropped drastically just like the States for Diesel and Gas. Many cases of diesel below $3 even in Nassau
Again biggest problem is watching your weather and winds from the N.E or East the seas become a *****.
Palm Beach to Green Turlte in the Abacos chain at 30mph 6-7 hrs. (180 mi.)
So many neat places and islands in the Abacos.
Exumas are great and a nice run after Nassau if one chooses that route.
Nassua just has TOO many tourists of the Cruise Ship variety.
Just my 2cents.
