Interested in removing the silent thunder exhaust box off a '97 382. Looks pretty simple. I assume I will need some exhaust tips. Anything special I need to know? Any advice?

You need a buddy to help you remove the bolts and drop it down. You can put clamp-on rubber flappers on the existing tips to avoid water intrusion. Not really necessary to buy new tips except for better looks. But don't run it without the clamps on flappers, and they cost very little.

BTW: I removed mine by myself......but another set of hands sure would have been nice!!!!

Guys,
Thanks for all of the advice! Glad to hear I can use the existing tips. I didn't want to invest a lot in this effort in case I need to put it back on (wife is not exited about the idea). I boat in the Buffalo area and I know that there are a lot of boats on the river w/out mufflers so I am hoping I won't have a problem w/the local gendarmes (and God knows there are plenty of them out there!). But in case I do, I can put it back on.....

I believe it's 6 bolts. Some say theirs came off easy, others say they had difficulties and had to pry it off. I'm looking into taking mine off, but am afraid of the water intrusion, even with the flappers. That box does help with preventing any intrusion from happening.

I wouldn't worry too much about water intrusion, as the 353 and 382 tip cut outs are pretty high out of the water in the first place.
