Default Boat speed limit in Maine!!!!!

Just recently, I was made aware of a bill for a speed limit on Long Lake and Brandy Pond in Maine. They want 45 mph during the day, 25 mph night.

There has been absolutely nothing in the news about this. It sure seems that they are trying very hard to keep it quiet and bury it in with a buch of other bills. There is going to be a hearing at the Augusta State House on Thursday the 12th.

Any and all support to fight this will be greatly appreciated.

Kurt

Kurt,

Go to www.njboa.org that has all of the information I used to defeat the speed limits here.

Stick to the facts and statistics! Only 8% of all accidents nationally were attributed to excessive speed in 2007. 92% of accidents had other reasons.

Good luck!

The key is to get the attention of the key decision makers and get private one on one meetings with them as well as in public forums.

You also need to mobilize as many boaters as possible. Do fax and email broadcasts to the masses.

Go to marine trade, boat dealer/ broker lists....purchase USCG Documented Vessel lists and do mailers.

In NJ, we can get over 300 people to send emails to officials or radio personalities within 24hrs. 300+ emails in one day will get anyone's attention!

Thanks for the info Dave. This one really snuck up on us. I've been in contact with our local dealers/marinas to hopefully defeat this bill.

I cant believe that because of one accident last year they are putting speed limits on our lakes. It is not the speed that kills it is the idiots driving.

Kurt it is a HUGE haul for me for one day but if I can finish the job we are starting tomorrow I will make the drive. Let me know if we can hook up some place on 95 and split the drive a little bit.
