Default Oil Tempature Switch

I'm in the process of re-doing my dash...Replacing all gauges with Autometers, & adding an Oil Temp.
Where is the best place to install the switch? I am looking at the remote filter block, there is a plugged off NPT hole. Is there a better place to monitor oil temp?

One other question...
Does Mercruiser run extra wires in the factory harness for adding circuits, or will I have to run new wires to the dash?

I asked the same question a while back, got lots of idea's, you can search my name, but I am putting mine in there as well, you will be getting a true "oil temp" vs some engine temp if in the block, Rob

I had originally thought about the block, but I was concerned about the possibility of restricting the oil flow thru that passage.
I did find the thread with your questions...Seems like plenty of ideas.
Thanks for the input...
