Default Kitty Hair and epoxy?

I am replacing the transom and stringers in my CC Scorpion. I have glassed in the two layers of 3/4 plywood except for the last cover layer. I drilled the 3/8 bolt holes for my swim platform and then used a hole saw and drilled them to 2" through the plywood leaving the outer layer 3/8. My plan was to fill these holes with the West Sytem ive been using from the start with collidal silica but am running out of resin and am on a budget. Rather than buy another batch of resin can I fill the voids with kitty hair? Will it bond to the transom glass and the inner mat that will cover it? I was also planning on packing the small voids on the sides of the plywood and the void I cut around the drain plug hole. The kitty hair that I have does not say that it will not bond to epoxy. It is made by evercoat. Anyone?

It wont bond and may not even cure at all for that matter when used on epoxy. When epoxy cures it gives off an amine blush that inhibits any polyester based prodcut from curing.

I filled a couple of the more accessable holes already to test it. Ill go back tomorrow and see if it holds. If the kitty hair has a chance to harden will it do its job as a spacer between the inner layer and the outer transom?

Some epoxies dont have a real bad blush and westsystem is one of them but it is still there. I have tried a few times on some small spots but really never had any luck with it.

I just re read your first post. You put in all new wood transom than took out a two inch core down to the outer layer of fiberglass? Having some trouble picturing what you are doing. Are you trying to bolt through only the fiberglass? Or are you trying to make sure the exposed wood in the drilled hole is sealed? pics?

Ill take pics tomorrow but yes, Im trying to keep water sealed from the bolt hole to the wood. Now that I think about it kitty hair probably isnt the best water barrier. Anyone think of anything else i can use other than another $150 in resin?

if its thru bolted just use 5200 but if you want to use a resin type system any epoxy is compatible. I prefer the 635 system from uscomposites. its way cheaper and i think its a better product. Dont get me wrong, West is great stuff its just way over priced and marketed, you can a quart system for twenty two bucks,
