Default Can I Gel overtop epoxy?

Back to my screw hole question. I looked into it a bit more this weekend, and I believe I can get away with just a bit of epoxy work and gel. I know I've read on a few threads but can't remember whether or not you can apply gelcoat overtop epoxy.

Also do I need to gelcoat overtop the epoxy?

In my experience the short answer is no. I'm sure Glassdave will explain the reason, but it has to do with to chemical compounds not bonding together.

That's why the expoxy boats are painted

no you cannot use gel over epoxy, the amine inhibits the cure out of the gel. If you are doing the repair in epoxy you will need to use a single stage urethane for color.

I used West Systems Epoxy to fill in my windows then primed with Durratech then gell coated. It seems to have worked very well.

I would post pictures if I were able too. It's just a small screw hole from the old bow light. The new one only covers a portion of it so I have to fill it in with something. I'm looking for the least expensive solution, but then again I was it done correctly. Has only used a gelcoat patch kit or repair kit. My Formula dealer said that they will provide me with the gelcoat so it will hopefully match. Is it possible to fill the entire hole with gelcoat?

I see that epogel is clear, can I apply a top layer of gelcoat over top of epogel.

What's the difference between epo coat and epo gel?
