Hello. I have the bench seat vinyl in the back of my scarab is in pretty good shape (just replaced the upperdeck vinyl) however, I notices the stitches starting to pull and I want this to last as long as possible.

I tried vinyl repair over the stitching and that didn't work becuse it dries hard and cracks off and doesnt let the stitching "give". Then I tried running a caulk line of white 5200 and that didn't stick well to the 2 sides of the vinyl...

Any other recomendations would be greatly appreciated by this overwhelemd new boater.

I had the exact same thing happen--take it to an upholstry shop that works on boats ASAP! If it tears you are done and will have to recover the seat.
They can usually restitch the area and save the vinyl for probably around $100.

Also, dont allow anyone on board with their shoes on--that is the quickest way to stretch vinyl and have it happen again (people love to step on seats). I have a shoe bag (see thru mesh) and its my policy that shoes come off on the dock and are placed in the shoe bag before they get onboard.

I will check out some upholstry shops this week! TOO damn expensive to have it totally redone!

go to your local craft store and buy a curved needle and and matching thread. start about 5" away from the pulled stich and work your foward 5" past the pulled seam cut of the extra thead. take a little super glue and dab it on the end of the needle and push the tail end of the thread in to the seat. this should save youe a few hundred bucks

Have a pro do it--what he's suggesting isnt easy and might make things worse if done incorrectly.
