Question 454 mag. dry or wet exhaust??

my buddy is doing his 454 over in his 25 outlaw. he is unsure what to run for exhaust. wet or dry. some say wet, others say dry, but no one says why.
what is the best way for him to go?
sound meens nothing, we run on the ocean so it can be as loud as he wants it to be. no restrictions. i run my wet open, no nothing and i run the shortest tips possable for the most sound. lol

what way to go?
its going to be a mild build. slightly larger cam, a very slight bump in compression, and maybe a very little head work. other then that, just fresh parts. rings bearings, 5 angle valve job, springs. titain retainers etc.
any input?

If your cam is going to be like a 420 HP cam which is a good choioe from what it sounds like then stick with the wet exhaust. With the wilder cams and tighter lob sep like 110 and under you can get what you hear alot about on this board is reversion. The overlap from the camshaft (from tighter lobe sep. ) causes or tends to suck the water back up into the engine from the wet exhaust. This also depends on what kind of exhaust he is thinking of getting also. If he likes the throttle lube (beers) most certainly stay wet to keep the law away.

To bad they didn't have those "beer can slip overs" that I see on the board alot - Pepsi , Coke, Etc. back when I use to drink and boat frequently.

With what he's doing, wet exhaust. No need for extra water dumps or plumbing with wet exhaust. It'll be plenty loud with straight tips, but not so loud you can't talk to the other person next to you in the cockpit.

he isnt worried about sound, he wants performance. not 100% on which cam yet. but which one will work better, make more power or is it a toss up and the main thing is sound?

dry will only make more power in the right setup (BIG cam).

usually dry does not make more power than wet though.

took my 454mag 30over... only used the stock block, and crank(but balanced).
Made 560hp.
Just used a Stainless Marine manifold, worked and sounded great. 5yr warranty.
