Yes, heating the balancer helps. I have done it while having the puller applying pressure to the balancer. BTW, the hottest gas I would use is M.A.P. Dont recommend using acetylene and O2

This might be a stuip question, but once you removed the crank bolt make sure there is no big washer still left behind. If there is you will pull on that balancer for ever and never get it off. Only reason I ask is my buddy was helping me tear down a ford 302 and tried to remove the balancer and snaped my snap-on puller. I never broke this puller before and once I checked I seen that there was a big washer still stuck in there. Good luck.

That is good advice crapr. I have actually done the same thing in my younger days. Once you have tension on the puller(get a Snap-On or similar puller), hit the end of the puller bolt with a hammer. This should shock the balancer into moving. If it does move, then tighen up the puller bolt again. Then hit it again. It should move just a little every time. I never heat stock balancers that have rubber in them for fear of melting the rubber. If you do it the way I described above, it will come off. It may take a little time, but it will come off. I have never been beat by one. Had one whip up on me for a while, but I eventually won
