Default My Meteor 50 restoration...

Hi, first of all I need to say how great this site is. Iīve been reading this some years, this is my first post though

I bought Meteor from my friend end of last summer (It has been one of my favourite boat) which he bought from New York some years ago. My friend never did any upgrading or work for the boat, so this was great project for me.

It wasnīt really in bad shape, just want to upgrade. Make nice and clean...

It has arnessons and CAT 3208:s, but 375hp I donīt know how, cause read some topics they were built originally 425:s

Thereīs some other weird things aswell. Iīd like to hear if somebody knows history of this boat, itīs called Public Enemy and last location was New York before it came North Europe.

I have taken engines out (engines were just in test bench) to see if all the ponies are still there ... Iīm getting new props, last owner broke one prop (it seems they were really wrong anyway)

Iīm doing some work for the engineroom, mounting shore power charger for 220V, some re-wiring etc..

I have taken apart cockpit, floor was rotten, fuel tank is out, water, waste tanks are out, changing hoses for new... etc.

Cabin I havenīt done any major work, Itīs clean and retro I like it.

Óu there is so many things I want share and need advise, opinions. So letīs start this topic.

I wanted to post some pics, but I donīt how to do it...??

Default Gratulations!

I'm happy about every boater in Europe who's keeping legends - and for me the Meteor is a true legend.

I'm really interested in seeing some photos of your boat. So I try to help you:
Don't use Quick Reply - use Post Reply. Here you have more options. To post pics, click on the paperclip (Manage Attachments), so you are able to upload the pics from your computer.
Try always Preview Post to see how you post looks like to others.

If you have questions to your restauration, feel free to ask me, I'll help as I can.

By the way: I love Helsinki, I stayed there for two times. Beautyful town! Hope to come again soon. Oh, I forgot the Leningrad Cowboys...

Best wishes from Graz,
Gerhard

Or have posted enough.

Yachtmaster Welcome.

Love your configuration on the Meteor.

Years back ( 1993 December) I saw an identical boat to public enemy in Miami.

If you need any help regarding the CATīs Iīve got a FEW contacts....
I think you should take up with Marine Diesel from Southwestern Finland..they take care a lot of Masmars with Cats

Bytheway Do I know you ?

Hereīs one pic...

PS get the arch BACK ON IT... LOOKS A LOT BETTER!!!

Default Meteor

Thank you Mikey, just came to Thailand to get some sun before the summer
Iīll try to pay and post some pics. Wanted to hear your opinions from different things..

My CATS:s were just in testbench at Witraktor, but any good contacts are helpful. I was looking for Sea Teks but havenīt find any second hand..

Maybe you know me, I work with the boats, especially BIG (in here) and fast ones

Thanks about the opinion of arch, Iīve been thinking to put back and some days not. Especially acuse then I can attach my cockpit cover for the bad weather...

So your a colleage then...
I work with fast boats and Is a race mechanic in road racing. Will be leaving to England over the easter in an hour for the start of the British Formula Ford series.

Trust me you DONīT want Seateks. C-12os or Cummins N11/14 instead, cheap to overhaul and easy to get Hp out. I know Jokke Kallios forrmer Sisu crew personally and 1000hp out of a N11 is no problem.
Iīm also building a Engine Dyno capable of 3300Nm.

I know Iiro A and Saki A...

You know Witraktors owner owns also MasMar... and my raceteam is heavily involved with them, we have a gray 47 with sufrace drives we play with.. target is 60 knots which we are a bit shy of.

Sea Tek should not be an option if you want to enjoy your boat.

You have the ASD8 Drop Box drives, so you need to keep the power in their operating range or re-rig the boat.

Suggestion: Cat family 420's, else use the QSB480 from Cummins. The Cummins will make you the happiest and in the stock form will dramatically improve the boat.

Mikey Iīll send PM U. (I know Iiro and others ofcourse) actually I was just in Turku last 2weeks to do my GMDSS radiolicence in maritime institute
I know the Wihuri people aswell, witrakotr is just doing some work my engines (not the cheapest option, though)

Thatīs good to hear about re-powering.
i donīt know the reason whyis my Moteor has CAT 3208īs with 375 hp. on it , cause originally it was 425 from facory.

Anybodu knows how to upgrade 3208īs horsepower to 425hp

Iīm planning to re-power my boat when get some money to do it....

Rik: I just emailed you regarding new props.(have your emails from previous owner)
That I thought so ASD 8īs are not capble to get so much power.

But any consulting for re-powering is needed. My plan is to keep for My Meteor for awhile...
