F650 Towing Question
#1
OK I have a question, I found a good deal on a used F650, but here are the opions that scare me.
1) It only has a 5 sp Allison 2200 hs series trans
2) Cummins 260 hp 6.7L
3) 5.29 R Axel ratio
I have always thought 300 hp Cat. and the 6sp trans is the way to go...do you guys think is set up so that if I went to sell it down the road I would have enough truck for towing not just a "Show" truck???
Thanx BZ

I have a question, is that trans an OD or 1:1 like a big truck? Cause 22.5's and 5.29 gears got to be one slow truck?
I don't know, it's been a long time since I had trucks (big trucks) and we had 3.55 with our 22.5's and 10spd 1:1 and those were slow w/1,900 rpm engines?

You will need the 5.27's with that engine.
I have an 08 with the 6-sp Allison - 300/860 c7 and 4.33's. It is brand new, I am only getting 10-12 mpg around town and 11-13 on the highway. Hopefully it will go up as it breaks in. Cat said the engine is running most efficiently between 1,800 and 2,000 rpm's. When pulling in town I keep it in 4th and in 5th on the highway. Unloaded it doesn't matter what gear I am in, but at 80 mph on the highway, my mileage is the same in 5th and 6th but, but of course I cam pass better in 5th. I think 4.63's or 4.88's would have been better for my use.
