Default Raw water pump hose connections

Ok this is probley a very stuip question, but it could save my new raw water pump. Iam installing a new raw water pump on my single motor 330hp 454 with a TRS drive, borg warner trans. While removing the intake and outlet hose on the back of the pump I never marked which hose goes where on the back of the pump. The new pump housing hose connections is marked LH outlet and RH outlet rotation. So is my motor LH or RH rotation? Once I now what rotation my motor is I can reinstall the inlet hose and outlet hose to the new pump. Thanks
Erik

Put the hose coming from the gimbal (water pickup) on top. The hose going to your motor on the bottom. This should be right if you have a newer style pump with the plastic housing.

Just check the rotation,,,if infront of motor and looking on the dampner the top should turnd right ,,,that would be a RH rotation standard motor !!!!
U don't need to fire it up ,,,just crank it over a notch and have somebody look!!!

The reason why ,,,is because the pump spins in the mount so u don't know whats up or down ?!

True, when I pulled the pump off I do remember the hose's being side by side and not top to bottom. Iam pretty sure its RH rotation just like every other engine. I will check tommorow.
Thanks guys

This is always confusing as the reference for marine engines is looking from the rear. Standard automotive rotation in the boat world is a LH engine. And just to screw things up the standard rotation on a sterndrive is RH.

The plastic sea pump housings have an arrow on them showing the rotation. You know what they say about a picture

Truth is I can't remember what reference is used for the sea pump, looking from the front or rear, that's why I like the arrows.

Oh ok so marine engines rotation is viewed from the rear of the boat? So if looking from the front of my motor and the balancer turns clockwise then it would really be a counterclockwise or a LH rotation correct..

Was your old pump housing metal? If so it would have been side by side. When you mount the new plastic one there will be a top and bottom. I just did this exact swap last week. I must add though this was done on a raw water/fuel pump style. Is this what you have?

No my set-up was plastic. My bracket to the raw water pump is a clamp style that clamps around the shaft and the water pump itself can be rotated if need be. Also my set-up is just a raw water pump and the fuel pump bolts to the block, they are seprate from each other.
