If they can prove the failer was do to inproper use of oil then they will denie it, and it is a 50/50 chance they will send the [rep] out to look. they truly believe in all of there parts they sell. also in these hard times they are looking at this a lot closer now. I am talking oils and filters and every thing in between. It is not worth it.

Also, I am pretty certain that the AMSOIL Marine Gearlube is the only Marine Gearlube out that meets or exceeds everyones specification, including VOLVO, the hardest to meet.

Thats why you take an oil analysis. That will tell all! Its worth it to me to save my drives, and thats why I run the AMSOIL Marine Gearlube. You have to remember Mercury doesn't make their oil, they send their specs to numerous oil companies, and whoever can make it to the minimum spec for the cheapest, thats who they use.

I know what you are saying it is good oil, but in the past I have seen them say no to other oil brands. Also just last september I was talking with the mercruiser rep for our area and he warned me our shop better be using there drive and engine oil or he will take a way our premier dealer service. So we have no choise as a dealer. I am shur you as the owener you could put you signature on giving a dealer the ok, Becouse you would be the one that had to fight it if mercruiser said no With the help of the oil brand you are running I would hope. I believe it was red line they said no to, also some boats where offshore race boats and that did not help at all with the non race boats in the late 90's. please don't be mad at me over this as a merc teck that is how we are suppost to do it for them.
On the other hand, like others said, they cannot force you (an owner) to use only their fluids BUT you do have to use something that is, at minimum, equivalent to theirs (i.e. meets the same specs).
