I have a Nortech 4300v with Yanmar 485's and Arneson ASD-8 surface drives. I have thrown blades with the original Hering props and just threw a blade on one of my brand new Mercury CNC 18x31 5 blades with less than 25 hour on them.
Does anyone have any ideas for a prop type/brand for this application? I am frustrated with paying 10K for brand new props and throwing blades.....any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

You can buy props for Arneson drives at : www.rollapropellors.ch ,they are also a Arneson dealer I believe ,they can cut any spline .
Also : Radice ,or Helice Radice propellors ,in Italie .
what speeds are you seeing ?

Just got to the shop and checked the props. They are only 16.25 X 31 and a set of 16.25 x 34 Rolla's 5 blade . Give us a call we race with the Arneson drives and have learned a lot on how to make them work.

I like and sell ACME propellers. However, I don't think they will be what you are looking for since they are softer material and will need to be ultra thick to stand up, decreasing performance.
Were the Merc propellers the 1200 hp level? Are they less than 1 year old?

I am seeing 70mph at 3200 rpm's with the Yanmars and Arnesons ASD-8's. The Mercury props were rated for 1200 hp and I have 485hp diesels. I understand the torque is nuch greater as well.
Thanks again for all of your help............

I was wondering about your gear ratio in your transmissions ,and by thinking about your numbers ,it should be close to 1,20 :1 ,if so your propshafts turn 2666 rpm ,and that puts a huge load on those blades.
If your boat was having a .84 :1 ratio ,your propshafts would turn 3800 rpm ,and by using a set 23/24 pitch cleavers (I don,t even know if they make these) you would have no throwing blades because of the load on the blades is much less.
Can you post a few pics from your boat /drives /engines ?
Sure looks like an awesome boat if its the one in your sig.

Here are some pics......I talked to several people today and got some good advice on props. It seems like Throttle Up has a good product and I am looking forward to getting more info on their products. Everyone I talk to says the same thing about Mercury, and it is not good.
