I am being asked about accomodations for Marathon.
There are no large hotel chains in Marathon and rooms are at a premium and booking fast for this years race.
Do some research - call and try to wheel and deal early.
Newer UPPER class, VERY nice condo types are Tranquility Bay and Coral Lagoon and a lot of choices from standard rooms to condos at Hawks Cay. There are some 2 to 3 star (my opinion) motels left and maybe the Chamber of Commerce can help. Also try Key Colony Beach motels and condos.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn last year, is that not open anymore?

There have been rumors for weeks that they are closing....I called this morning and they said to call after May 1st and they would know if they will still be open.
I will try to get some better info. from the owners

I tried to get on their website this morning, and it kept giving me errors, as if it didnt exist any longer

How bad is Sombrero Beach resort???

I was just told that we were asked to take Holiday Inn off our website , it will not be available .......so I guess that answers that.
Sombrero isn't the worst. I've heard mixed reviews.

Or get together with a couple of people and consider a rental....there are many rental homes in Marathon and you could call Coldwell Banker or Exit Realty and see what the deals are.

Banana Bay Resort & Marina is also a decent option. I haven't been there in a few years but it was pretty nice last time I was there.

We also used to stay at the Blackfin which wasn't terrible & has a marina & boat ramp.
