Hey guys I just bought a Garmin 540s Gps. Iam on Lake Erie and Ontario and Both Niagara Rivers, The Gps comes loaded with what they call U.S Coastal waterways which im being told includes the Great Lakes. I was also told that once I cross the Canadian border it wont read anything, Is that true? I do alot of night boating and in the river and lake there are alot of buoys that are not lite so thats all i really want it for. So basicially my question is did i just waste $700

It's not like it won't read the location, unless for some reason they have specifically programmed it to detect that you are in Canada, and tell you nothing. But if the maps are not loaded, it will tell you nothing. My guess is that it has the maps, but the best way is to try. Ask it to navigate to Toronto, and see what it shows. If there is detail, you are fine.
