have an oportunity to trade my 24 ol for a 29 sunsation.. sunsation has been painted and clear coated .. imron paint i think.. Does it last as long as jell.. does it scratch easy? and can it be left in the water...

just wondering if it is a good idea to buy a painted boat..

I would much rather have a painted boat....gel colors fade badly if left in the sun if you don't stay on top of them !

Nothing wrong with a painted boat as long as it was done right. If you take care of it , it can easily last as long as Gel, or longer & it may keep its shine longer too.. J

I guess the best answer to your question is that paint will last as long if not longer than gel regarding gloss and fade. That being said you will see a scratch with paint as the gel is probably a differant color undereneath. There is no automotive paint product to include Imron that should be left in the water for long periods of time as they are not recomended below the water line. Read any TDS of any product. Unless you are planning on leaving it in the water for long periods of time a painted boat is a great buy.
