That's the one. If you have a stock 502, it will make around 550 hp. If you modify engine like I did , you can see more like 750 with that little blower. If you only have a single, I would snatch it up, have it custom tuned and be rockin' for under 3 grand for 550 hp.

Smitty, what modifications did you do to your engine? I have a stock 502 Mag an I am putting a Vortec Supercharger on it in the next couple weeks. I have the engine out of the boat now because I had to replace the transom. I have Gil manifolds and 4 inch risers / pipes. I also have a MSD Ignition system (ignition, rev limiter, coil, distributer and wires. Any ideas? I thought I would put a fresh set of head gaskets in it since engine is out and I am adding the Vortec?

Sorry xtreme 1 I didnt mean to steal your thread just looking for options. We have a couple guys around here that swear by Vortec for what its worth?

Here's what I would do:

1. Definitely change the head gaskets and buy good ones like cometic or Fel-Pro MLS

2. Change your valve springs to new ones since the heads are off.

3. Since you are staying with the iron heads, polish the combustion chambers in the head. This will eliminate a place for detonation to start which will kill a piston. Be careful so you don't remove too much material as it will change the cc's of the head.

4. If you can afford it also change from head bolts to studs from ARP. Just a little more insurance to keep the heads from lifting.

5. If the heads need a valve job, have it changed to a single angle as this will allow for maximum heat transfer when valve is on the seat. Loss in performance from this mod is neglible in a boat app.

Good Luck !!!
