Default exhaust manifold gaskets, any other options? copper?

i was looking at exhaust gaskets for my manifolds and i cant believe how much them things are, i know i am a cheap a$$ and all but i just cant see why they are so much! what if you end up taking the manifolds off a few times while trying to get everything to fit or run properly?? now i know i cant use most automotive gaskets on my marine motor but i ran across a pair of copper manifold gaskets that are for automotive but i am thinking that i see no reason why they wouldnt work for a marine application? i am running gil manifolds and pipes if that makes any difference... any suggestions? thanks

Header gaskets from your local hot rod shop..... works great and don't cost an arm and a leg.... Use them on SMI's for yrs..... A little spray adhesive to glue it to the manifold and a little orange sili between the gasket and the head and rock and roll....... just a little sili .... not a glob....

Wink

Make your own copper gaskets. Heat it to dull red and quench it in cold water to make it soft. You can reuse it several times with doing this procedure. Have the same copper gasket in my 1958 Matchless M/C I restored 20 years ago and had the cylinder head off a few times.

GM sells a nice layered steel gasket, reusable and holds up very well. the cheap hotrod gaskets (especially them white ones) arent worth the box they are packaged in.
