I've got an oval-shaped gouge in my hull, about 1" long, 1/2" wide, and 1/4" deep.
At Boating World's "going out of business" sale I bought some white Marine-Tex but am not sure it is the right product for the job, even though it claims to "handle like putty, harden like steel, and sand like wood"!

Any suggestions on the appropriate product, and how to apply it since it will be an "upside-down" application?

I have used Marine Tex before and can attest to their claim of "handle like putty, harden like steel, and sand like wood". I have filled chips and gouges on my hull and did a quick repair on my waverunner's aluminum exhaust. The exhaust pipe sprung a leak around the base of a fitting... dealer wanted $400 for a new pipe so I tried Marine Tex instead and it has held great for 2 years now.
