Purse Question for 2009
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe if we take the purse from 25k and lower it to 20k paying the top 8 boats in each class than take 5K from each round than divide it up and pay to the top 3 teams in each class as a year end award?
** If there are only 5 teams in a class the extra 300 gets rolled into the year end awards $$
1st (1000) 2nd (800) 3rd (600) 4th (400) 5th (200) 6th (100) 7th (100) 8th (100)
Class 6
Class 5
Class 4
Class 3
Class 2
Class 1
*If this is to late to vote on, or change that just disregard the post. I was just thinking this would encourage teams to race the series and not just flat water or big water races.

Just my opinion.....Dont know if I'll be racing or not, but.....
It cost a pretty penny to get to a race. If the purse isn't attractive, some people may think twice about racing. Especially in today's economy.
paying down 8 classes is crazy. I think first second and third is the way it should be.
However, I would like for high points champ in each class to receive a nice cash prize. (Say 5000) That would attract teams to try and do every race.
Again....just my .02

Very good point; how about the top 5 get paid and the top 3 get paid just a little more? But my theroy behind paying deep is to attrack some local teams that may only be able to afford to do 1 or 2 races (if they are close), and this would help put some fuel into there tanks and maybe get them hooked on the sport.

1st (1400) 2nd (900) 3rd (700) 4th (200) 5th (100) = $3300.00 pr class x 6 = 19,800.00

Make the series points pay the bigger money. Winning the championship should be the ultimate goal, and with it the ultimate prize. Most of us watch other forms of motorsports, wins during the season are great, but what do we really watch for as the season goes along? Who is going to win it all...

How is about 1 st (1200) 2 nd (800) 3 rd (700) 4 th (300) 5th (200) = 3200 pr class =19200 and use the 800 also in the year end award.

Here's a thought...how about we leverage the buying power of the OPA organization to reduce the travel costs for all teams. What I mean is what if we have a rep that could work to get ALL teams free rooms, free food, etc. at each location. Maybe cap it at one meal per racer per day, one room per team, x amount of gallons of gas, etc. Thus reducing the travel cost greatly for each and every team.
Dont want to saturate down the purse too much!

I thought that as well. Case in point last years Triple crown. We felt if we paid a large purse over the coarse of all three events the turn out would be better. What actually happened was the boat count actually decreased when they realized they were out of the points. You need a strong purse paid at every event to keep the teams coming. And somehow find extra $ for the high points.
