The motor is on the stand, ready for a cam swap, heads shaved 30 thousand. Any mild cam Ideas, The boat still has an alpha drive so, I don't want to be slamming into gear at a high idle.
Any Ideas on cams, push rods and or springs would be a big help. Thanks nobudget

I used Crane # 134241 in my 454mag. Its a 226/236 duration with a .534/.553 lift on a 112 lobe sep. Its very close to the cam used in the Merc 420 and 525SC. It comes in a kit form with lifters, lube and thrust plate. Part # is 134242 and it was only about $150 for the whole thing from Summit. I also used the recommended Crane springs(#13308) and roller rockers. Used the stock length pushrods. You will also have to get screw in studs. I used some from ARP(part# 135-7102) that were a 3/8 bottom and 7/16 top. That way I didn't have to get the threads recut for the studs or drill the pushrod guide plates.

Thanks Griff:
On the screw studs, did you have to make a change on them do to the roller rockers. In other words I can not use the stock srew studs with the roller rockers is that correct!
Any thoughts on how these upgrades plus a victor Jr. intake and a 750 Deamon carb, imco exhaust. Would be on the old alpha drive going into gear.
Thanks for the great detail on the numbers I will more than likely go that route!

No you can't use the old bolts for the rockers. They don't fit and are not adjustable. They are made for the stock lift cam only. The ARP stud part # I posted is what you need if you don't want to have the heads retapped or drill out the push rod guide plates. Use some strong Locktite on them when you screw them in and torque them to 40#s.
As far as changing intakes, there was a lot of talk about this a while back. The general concensus was that the Magnum intake is VERY good and with a good carb spacer was as good as any aftermarket one except for maybe the Dart single plane.
If you need any more info, let me know. I still have all my receipts from when I did my engine last year with all the part #'s for everything.....gaskets, K&N filter, everything. I got all my parts from Summit Racing. They don't list a lot of them on line, but do stock them.
