Hey guys. I have a 1990 Baja 250 Es and I guess the original Morse cable steering system is still in it. I bought a new steering wheel that came with a mounting hub. I removed the old steering wheel with out any problem. What remains is a shaft protruding through the console with what appears to be some sort of collar on it. There is also a plastic Morse trim ring that conceals the additional mounting hardware. The collar has a shaft protruding through it with male threads. The collar also has three tabs that give it a star shape. My old steering wheel had three small machine screws that fastened to these tabs. I can not figure out how to remove this collar. It almost seems as if it is made on to the shaft. I am stuck. Need some help. Do I need a special steering wheel to mount back on to it. I need to remove these pieces to replace the dash panel. What's up? Thanks.

The aluminum piece that your steering wheel mounts on has a tapered shaft and a woodruff key. Borrow a steering wheel puller, or the sort, and it pops right off. The black plastic bezel has two "tits" you pry around to get off that are close to the dash.
I did the same thing today.
