ok heres what i have, i broke my gimbal ring the other day, it was a gen 1. i picked up a used one from a friend and after installing it i found out thats its a gen 2. it looks like the only difference is the spread on the feet/forks. 3 3/4" vrs 4". also the hole for the trim cylinders pin is bigger but i think the gen 2 use a bushing here?
what i want to know is will it work? its up nice and there is no play in it anywhere so am i good to go? what do those feet /forks do anyway and how will it make a difference in my applicattion?
any help or input here would be great i want to get back in the water this weekend!

I think the bellhousing that mounts in the ring is wider on the Gen 2. I may be wrong, but I had wanted to put a gen 1 drive on a gen 2 transom and looked at replacing the bellhousing. I think that was the problem. I ended up modifying my Gen 2 bellhpusing to mount a gen 1 (SS) drive.

A gen 2 drive has a piece of nylon on each side of the drive,where it slides in and out of the gimbal. They might work on the alpha 1 if you sand or grind them down a little.You should not have to much side to side clearence at that point,It will cause premature gimbal ring failure. JOHN
