Question K Plain location and effects on speed and ride hight

I was wondering if the location of your k plains have any effect on speed. I have two location on my transom to mount them and wanted to know where is the best. If I mount them the way they are now they are about 10" inward fro the side of the boat. if I swap the transom brackets on the tabs I can make them 5" from the side of the boat. If they were tucked in more towards the center would this possibly make the back of the boat ride higher or do they not have that kind of effect. and what about effects on speed.

On a V bottom,When the tabs are mounted towards the outside edge of the transom,if the boat is fast enough to lift all but the center of the hull out of the water .The tabs will become ineffective.I have seen improvement of control at speed by moving them towards the center .

Which tabs are you going to use? Longer tabs will still work well even if they are mounted farther out. Make sure if you are planning to mount them farther in that you have adequate clearance for your drive to swing. Tabs in either location should not affect top speed if they are fully retracted. Any tab in any location will reduce top end when they are deployed unless the added stability lets you run faster in bad conditions by leveling out your flight.

K-planes in general are not theoretically fully effective on the aft ends until roughly 75 mph is achieved. The trailing end doesn't have enough hydrodynamic force until that point. If the boat tends to ride high you want the tabs to be inboard to control chine-walk. If it rides deep then more to the outboard end. I suggest you call the factory up and get suggestions from them based on past factory installs...

Have someone follow behind your boat and video the activity at the transom. Note ride height, water level, drive and prop height.
