Default Pressure

Depends upon Mfr. recommends usually 80 psi at that high a load.

I usually run 5lbs less than what the sidewall says to allow for heat build-up.

Under-inflation actually contributes to heat build up.

On a trailer I run the max that the tire shows on the side. In my case the tires are load range "E" and call for 80 PSI.

Check what's on the side of your tire.

Yes, read the tire pressure on the sidewall of the tire, like Dock Holiday said, under-inflation causes heat (tire flexing). Maximum inflation checked on cold tire.

Being in the Tire Business, I'm just a little familar with under inflation, heat build-up, tread depth, section width, overall dia., rolling resistance, revs per mile,,, bla bla bla.
That 80lbs is the max inflation point, for that tire. FOR ME, I have found that 75 cold works the best, FOR ME, because it will be at the 80lbs, 150 miles down the road on a hot summer day.

I just put new tires on the trailer today, I asked the guy and he said keep it at 35 to 40. I did not like that answer, that seems to low, max is 50psi so I will assume 45psi before I start the trip.

Thanks

You mean to tell me the tire engineers don't take into account tire pressure increase due to heat when they stamp 80 psi max cold tire pressure on the side of the tire wall?
