I`m looking for our first boat, been looking on/off for a year or two. Never finding anything that I`d be exited about with my price range.
My question is; is the year of the boat a major consideration and does it affect the price in a major way?

I have found a 1990 Baja 250ES that is absolutely spotless, 260 hours on hull, low hours on new motor, it looks like it left the showroom floor yesterday, I have seen boats 10 years younger that didn`t look this good, seller has receipts for absolutely EVERYTHING,and the list is loooooong, even the trailer is spotless.

asking is $22K, bottom price is $21,500.
When I check into value of the boat, from Blue Book to my insurance agent, noone has the value above $13K.
Mainly because it`s 20 years old. But since everything has been replaced/fixed does that raise the value so much?

Looking around there are no boats in the $20K range that are in such good shape.

Is Blue Book that far off or are they asking too much?



I`m confused... if I`d be overpaying, plus any info or reviews on this boat would be helpful , I can`t find any at all


Also financing for a 20 year old boat is nonexistant..1999 and up is what most places are willing to finance so I think selling this boat may be a bit difficult for the seller.. This should also bring the value down

Personally i would not buy a Baja,,,but the price seems fair if it is like u described ,,,Financing.........thats an other story !
Value....its a buyers market, so everything is worth what u are willing to pay ...........and its going to be like that for a long time the way it looks .

Little story, i rebuild everything in my boat , CORE, STRINGERS,BULKHEADS, ENGINE,SEATS and so on ......
spend about 120 K ,,its a year 92,,,is it worth it ????? TO ME YES, selling it , i want 70 ,will i get it ....more likely ,NO

but i love it and like what i did,,always remember ...fun will cost money , no matter what u do .

I think you could probably do newer and bigger for little more money.

Check with CU's for financing, many of them don't mind age as long as it books out. Good luck.

Spotless is great but in todays market exspecially it's way overpriced. I'd give a premium over book value, for it being as you describe if I was to want to buy a baja, but not a premium of almost twice it's book value, Baja or not. Remember as well in that era marine grade wood was not used so be sure to examine very closely transom and places prone to mositure exposure. Looks can be deceiving.

k planes are a must on big water without them and stock power I would say 14,000 to 16,000. If your looking for room in the boat a 25outlaw say in the 98 year or a 98 active thunder 25 both have deep cockpits would be boats in the 20 to 25 grand. theres lots of deals out there boats in the 30 foot range 1990 and newer 30,000 and up. good luck art

Locally theres a 1993 Envision 29' for $25000 but it has a Jasper 502.. There seems to be mixed reviews on the Jasper, so I`m not sure if that motors gonna fall apart on my in a month

AIR TIME, The Outlaws seem to be tight on room. In the 25' the rear seats are right up against the front seats, am I wrong?

They're better deals, and you could bid less on the Velocity.

Also, if you don't want to tow far you can use Uship where they bid for the job and you get great deals. I'm having a 28 brought from Ft Worth to Det for $1K.

ooohhh I like that Checkmate! only a 6 hr drive to see it lol

a 6 or even 12 hour drive is worth it for the correct boat! I have driven 12 hours each direction just to look at junk but some times you will find the gem and deal. If you pay that much over book you are going to get KILLED on resale.
