Default New Boater Here And Im Over Heating, Why?

I Got A 454 With A Xr Drive Been Out Twice And Got Home The Second Time To Flush The Salt Water And No Water Comes Out Of The Exhaust And Got Up Yo 200 Degrees. What Seems To Be The Problem? Impeller? Is that inside the water pump?

The water pump is on the right side of the engine down low and driven by a belt from the front pulley of the engine. The impeller is inside of it.

if your impeller has taken a "set" it's performance has dropped considerably. If you lost parts of the impeller you are going to have to search upstream at the oil cooler inlet to pick out those pieces. I also would change out the wear plates if they're scored.

Just changed mine about a month ago. Alarm goes off while idling out of the marina, temp up to 200 and no water. It's the impeller! It's on the starboard side, front bottom of motor. I think it was 5 bolts to take it out. Simple fix, took about 1 1/2 hours and that included 40 mins of driving to pick one up. And make sure you backflush the oil cooler!!!!! I had a bunch of pieces from the impeller come back out that would have got plugged up in there.
