Need Advice on Boat Body work Tech Manual
Hi folks and thanks in advance. I am new project boats but this is not my first boat. Im building a 1972 Magnum Marine 27 foot. The boats hull is great. Im removing the chrome grab rail around the front and the windshield plus some side rails I dont like to make the boat look more like a maltes or magnum sport. I just dont know what to do with the holes once I take them off. Any help would be great. I would love a book to use as a refrence guide for this work. I have done body work but mostly I would weld pannels and let others do the finishing work. (Im not very good at details). However the only way I can afford antoher boat is to do some of the work myself. Thanks Mark

Does it have a headliner? If so you should prob. take it down then remove the handrail hardware, from there your going to see holes, tape the back side "where the headliner was" so no resin drips into the boat, from there your ready to start. 1. grind where the thru bolt holes was, try to keep it small quarter size, take it down a little bit prob. 2-3 layers of glass, after its all ground blown it off to get rid of all dust then give it a wipe with acetone, some people will tell you that you should mix up fiberglass paste to kinda get rid of the hole shape on the inside but because its just cosmedic you'll be fine with just adding 2-3 layers of glass over the holes, if you have a air roller aka "bubble buster",, after you apply the 2-3 layers of glass role out the glass to remove all air this will prevent any future stress cracks! let it kick "harden" when fully cured give it a quick grind try to stay flush with deck surface! If the glass is still high block it out with a sanding block using 80grit paper afterblocking to the right surface hight your going to have 80 scratches your going to wanna fill them with a light filler "dyna glaze" some very light weight! just make sure before you fill around area that you sand it quickly with 180 or 220grit,, no shinny spots for this will just cause the repair to lift off the boat.. when all sanded with your 180 - 220, sand the whole area with 320 so when you prime the primer wont sink! but if your going to spray gelcoat dont finish sand with 320 cuz the gelcoat wont stick aswell when spraying gelcoat you want to finish sand with 180grit!!!! any problems just email me ill do my best to help you out!! sorry for the run on sentence!!
