Default good or bad volvo 600dpx

Looking at a boat with volvo 600hp and dpx drives. From what dealer told me they are very reliable and volvo still uses drive on there high powered diesel cruiser boats. Are the volvo motors 502 or 540s look like they have cast headers? any info would be appreciated!

Have a guy in the area that has the 500 dpx set up , the motors run great but he spends most of his time trying to find parts for the drives. After what I have seen, no thanks . But that's just me.

They are 540's.

They were built for Volvo by Innovation marine.

Innovation told me back in 2002 or so that volvo discontinue the program because the drives couldn't take the power. I personally would not hesitate to buy one, you just need to be good on the sticks as is true with most any perf boat unless you like rebuilding drives.

Isn't the DPX a dual prop drive? Think of what the prop slip must be....below 10% more than likely with GREAT mid-range speeds. Never heard of drive issues but 600hp in front of a bravo XR isn't going to last forever either. I'd buy one, and might even prefer it, but it is a harder sell due to the popularity/availability of the XR's.

In todays market it could have the best drive out there and to sell, the price has to be right. Doug

I have the DPX w/procharged 502 (yes it is dual prop) and never had any issues. pulls really had at the mid. change fluids 2 times a year and should have no probs.

Drives are very stout. Much stronger than any Bravo. It was their racing drive that had built-in external steering. I think all of the Bat Boats ran them.

They might be strong but, I agree with Jeff. Just imagine, its 1 week away from the big run or the holiday weekend and you were broke down and you were trying to source parts.............. Not saying they are bad or good. jus my 2cents.
