Default Kaama Surface Drive HELP !

I have a 40' Formula with Kaama Surface Drives. I severly damaged one when the bearing came apart. I am looking for information on these unites or parts.

What bearing went bad and where is the damage. I had a Kaama boat a few years back and the bearings in one of the transom assemblies went bad. The assembly got all torn up so I removed both off the boat and had a machine shop make a sleeve for the torn up one, using the good assembly as a template. It worked well and I never had an issue with it!! Not sure if this helps or not!

It sounds like i have experienced the same damage as you did. I like your idea. what was the turn around time and the expense of the repair ?

It was so long ago I don't remember what the cost was (few hundred dollars maybe). The turn around time depends on the machine shop you take it to. If I remember correctly it took my shop about a week to get it done. I pulled the drives and transom assemblies out myself!

Your advice has proven to be very helpful. It looks like we will be out about 2 weeks. We are not sure of the cost at this point but still very pleased with the interest in the repair and the cost will be what it will be. All this being far better than nothing. Through this whole process we have assembled a group of people that could possibly produce casting molds for the housings and the rubber boot. We'll see. Thanks again for your help

There are a few boot threads going in the Formula area. If you find something boot wise let them all know and you can probably get the cost down per unit.

I see you bought "Wavewalker". I had been looking at that boat before I bought my 402 SR1. Cool boat!
