I will be in Los Angeles on Saturday July 11th (without my boat). Is there any marina or place that I can go to see offshore boats, either docked or running? I read the posts here about boating in 8ft+ waves, but I have never seen anything like that.

Probably won't find any "docked" unless you go to Newport dry stack. Post in the SCOPE site (www.scopeinfo.com) to see if anyone is running.

Perfect timing for you. Saturday 7/11 is the Catalina ski race. Sunday is the Rum Run race to Catalina and back. The ski race is early saturday 9am. The pits will be the launch ramp at the end of the 710 freeway in Long beach. Rainbow harbor is across from the Long Beach Hyatt where the Grand Prix is held. It will be filled with boats from the ski race and the Rum Run. See you there.
