Default 502 MPI Recommended Oil Weight?

What is the recommended oil weight for a gen VI 502 MPI? And any recommendations on brand?

I used to run Valvoline Racing 40W a few years back. Is this still a good choice?

I am sure that the Valvoline 40W is fine. I have always only used the Merc 25-40 in my 502 mpi, never had any issues with it yet.

The 502's always had a tendency to burn a little oil. Actually the tolerances allowed it to blow bye especially when cold. I had the best luck with the straight Valvoline 40 weight racing oil. It is a good oil for that engine.

I would recommend the Amsoil 10/40 or 20/50 for your application. I run the 10/40 in my 500EFI and am really happy with it so far.

Amsoil's 40wt Marine is a 15W-40....

10W-40 would not do it I think.
