Default GlassDave, Or Anyone Else

GlassDave, I tried to send you a PM but your box is full so I'm posting here, anyone else please fell free to respond.
Top Banana said that your the person to ask about painting info? I'm going to repaint my 24' Banana boat and it would help if I knew what works best with white Awlgrip paint. I found a site that gives a lot of detail with the prep work and the conditions to paint in, weather. What I don't know is what pressure, tip size, # of coats and if I can put a clear coat on top? So if you have the time to fill me in on this and any other info I'll really appreicate it.

Tell ya the truth i haven't used AwlGrip in years so i really couldnt comment on its application. Have you considered a single stage like PPG's Concept?

Correct me if I'm wrong Dave but would i be better off with the PPGs Deltron DBC? I assume the DBC means Deltron Base Coat? If I read right there's no need to sand if you put the clear coat on within 24 hrs of your last base coat???
Seems everyone likes their paints, thanks!

i was thinking you were going all white. If thats the case use a single stage, if it will have any kind of painted graphics or stripes use base/clear.

i use almost exclusively PPG stuff.

Opps, I'm going all white, I'm kinda lost on this stuff so please bare with me. The Deltron is just a clear coat which gets pigment added to it??? Is there any difference between it and Concept?
In either case I think I'll have to use a primer as I see the boat has been repainted and some areas of the bottom now have the newer paint chipped away. Also after I spray the two or three coats of white I believe the clear coat needs to got on within a few hrs-no later then 24 hrs otherwise it needs to be sanded to make the clear coat bond?
Last, would you suggest no clear coat or using a less solids in the final coat of White instead? Someone told me that that will give more gloss W/O the need to spray a clear coat?

Deltron is a PPG product line not a single product. Concept (DCC) is their single stage high performance finish. If you are shooting just white use the Concept DCC single stage and if you need a nice clean white the color number i use is 91050. No point in doing a base/clear system.

Glassdave can tell ya better, but if I were going multiple color, even a stripe, I would use PPG with Concept clear(not sure if awlgrip makes a 2 stage or not) so you dont have a ridge at the edge of the stripe.
