Default Bad experiences w/ Labbed Props??

I'm seroiusly thinking of labbing my 23p Mirage+ but I'm worried about slicing body parts when hanging off the rear swim platform. We like to anchor/ raft in shallow swim area's with lots of kids around and I definitely don't want to risk any serious injuries for a couple rpm/ mph. Anyone have any bad experiences or advice?? No one I boat with has a labbed prop so I don't want to drop the cash if edges are really that sharp and it's a major harzard.

i was about to ask the same Q also how fragile are the blades after they have been thinned are they still fairly strong or are tiny little sticks floating in the water gonna bend the blades all up???

Cool

I too beach and raft off-- leave the drives all the way down and you wont have a problem. But if you kick the leading edge of the prop you will get cut. The blades will only be damaged by the same things that would normaly damage the prop but more damage will be done --- Just be more careful and you wont have a problem...

I'm having my Mirage Plus worked over at a shop. I had the same questions. This guy is sharpening the leading edges of the blades to a knife like edge but leaving the blades fairly thick to survive impacts better. You do have to be very careful moving around at the stern. I have heard of people getting cut and needing stitches at times.

I had mine done last year (23p Mirage +). I picked up right at 2 MPH and yes, it is damn sharp. I was concerned about the same things you are because we beach/ anchor and have a young child.

No problems last year but I am pretty anal about people, especially the kids, getting close to the prop.

As for damage, it is much thinner and I heard the same thing...what might have put a pretty good nick in it before will now do much more damage...Where you boat should be a consideration (sand bars, debris etc). If you do it, I would pick up a cheap spare as well...

All in all, I was very happy with the results...and will do it again...

My current labbed props are four blade mercs. The edges on these props are sharp and will cut you but not as dangerous as cleavers. I had a pair of merc labbed cleavers on My last boat and they were very very sharp, not to mention that they come to a very sharp tip as well. I had a girl jump off the swimstep and put about a 4" slice in her ankle. They would also bend the tips very easy because they were so thin. The round ear props are much more durable.
