If you need to custom taylor your advance curve to clean up the idle because of the cam, a mallory unilite is just the ticket and they work well, if not and you want a simple setup that works a aftermarket HEI is hard to beat at the rpm we run, down side is neither have rev limiter....Rob

A stock Thunderbolt IV should suit you needs for HP and RPM's.

It a Gen 6 engine, I don't think that has the Thunderbolt IV.

I would stay with the stock ignition also.

I have built a few 496's and it worked great for me.

I would look for a TB IV and use a V8-HP module.

I have always wanted to look into those, they look SWEET.

Do you know how much the advance curve is? Or do you just set it at total advance and let the base fall where it falls.

Im using the set up that Griff mentioned on my 496 with great results. Some others have used the Crane setup that has a pre-programmed advance that mimmicks the Merc HP's.
