Rotted Hubs???
#1
I just purchased a set of Bravo ones off e-bay.They came late today and when I opened them both props, one worst then the other, looks like the webs holding the hubs in place are rotted?I know it cant be becasue of the stainless but could they have been cast that bad?I have one or two webs that I can see day light thru...They dont look to safe to me,not sure what do due with them now except contact the seller and see what he says. Also these props have a ton of work done to them.If it was a casting problem they why would any one put any time into these?HELP
Thanks Anthony

Julie,
I know you and I spoke about these props the other day. But I went into my garage and checked a brand new pair of 32's I bought about a month ago and only used twice in fresh water. They have two spots about the size of a dime starting to do the same thing with the pits and a rust color. So whats the maintance that should be done to prevent this?
Thanks for all your help

I'm sorry to say, maintenace has nothing to do with the webbing/struts casting flaws.
Do to the thickness of those points the steel will occasionally not fill proper there during the initial fill and cooling process. Also, waxes can be affected by temp before the pour.
Anyway, although not pretty, I have litterally seen hundreds of castings in that shape and have never seen one fail. We even tested this problem at Mercury and could break the casting. Personally, I'd like to see that area thicked just slightly. I think it would fix the problem
Seriously, your OK.
