Default 6.2 Low RPM

Gimme some help. 2002 Formula 260BR 6.2 B3. Max RPM per tach is 4200. Others in the group say their 6.2s are turning 5200. Why? Where should I start to look?

Has it always been like this from new or all of a suden? If always I would say either your tack gauges are out of adjustment or you have to big of props, Or wrong gears in the drive, Or your at a higher elivation slowing your engine down to start with.

first things first... are all these guys 15 mph faster than you are ? do your revs and gearing agree with the mph you are going ? are they all using props the size of coffee can lids and yours look like a trash can lid ?

get some real data and the answer may well be so obvious you can't believe it....

You need to go about 4 inches smaller in pitch on your props.

Here's an update ... problem seems to be fuel system related. Engine has fuel smell when I slow to idle speed. Fuel mileage is through the floor. Engine cover says WOT should be 4800-5000.

Engine seems to be dead on. 29 knots GPS at 3200RPMs. Just can't get the engine to pull over 4000.

OK. Here's the results. Mechanic traced down the problem to the fuel pressure regulator. Fuel consumption has gone back to normal and engine pulls 4700-4800 RPMs.
