I boat out of Freeport L.I. and head towards the Great South Bay on occasion........ I tend to see more Tow Boat US boats around then Sea-Tow......I am a Boat US member.... But I do see both so I am sure they are both good in our area......

BoatUS has won several lawsuits against SeaTow, including one that was in the US Supreme Court. Boat US is a huge organization, and one of the few consumer lobbying organizations I applaud. Many boater's issues have been successfully argued by them, including ethanol issues, EPA restrictions and permits, as well as boater's driver's licenses.

Their boating insurance is amongst the best in the business, perhaps not for performance boats (don't know), and is a subsidiary of Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway.

As for towing ? I have both unlimited on land towing and on water from them. I believe they are a class act, and I trust their stated policies more than others. In some areas, Sea Tow may in fact have better coverage, they can't be everywhere. Sea Tow can be great in some areas, or viewed as vultures in others, They are franchised.

For the unbelievable low prices for on water towing insurance, I would not shop on price. In some cases, having both might be a good idea. If I were to have a choice, Id always go with Boat US. If no choice, then ya have to do what ya hafta do.
