is ther a "carfax" for boats. I am looking at a boat that is being sold as 1 owner, however, I am confident I have met the 3rd owner on here on OSO. This would make me the 5/6th owner and not 2nd/3rd owner as the dealer would like me to believe.
Any way to research ownership and/or insurance claims on a boat?

I cannot say if there is or not, but even if there is, its no where near a 100% guarantee, it would only be on the record if it was reported... Lots of back door hack shack work.
No replacement for an accredited marine survey! Just my opinion...
Registrations are public information... You can find the registration history on any vessel, previous numbers and owners if it transferred states. Would be much easier if it was a documented vessel....

Some states you can submit the HIN or State #'s and they can track who had it registered in their state. But not all states and if it was from or ever in another state it doesn't matter. Seriously, get a professional survey done, as for the dealer, they usually only know what the guy who traded it in told them, unless they sold it new.
