Angry Alpha One shifting problem...stumbling rpms when wavy

1989 alpha one I was out on the boat today and lost the ability to shift gears...linkage looked ok but when i took the boat out of the water i noticed...(going to try my best to describe this) On the drive there is a brace leg and on the alpha house there is an upside down U channel that the leg is supposed to sit snuggly into...well what i noticed is that leg is about a quarter inch to low...somhow it has dropped out of its position..what gives??

problem number 2 im going to do my best to explain this as well 1989 mercruiser with a rochester quadrajet carb...in neutral the engine will rev up to 5000 rpms without hesitation...trying to get on plane it starts popping and stumblling...so i changed the water separater 2 times and still same thing...once I get it onto plane it seems to stuble with the waves...as i go up it wants to stall...it only stays running smooth when the water is smooth? i don't know much about carbs so if thats what it is please talk me through it.. any ideas??:

My donzi did the same thing with the carb last year. I had to rebuild it.

i just took off the screen filter just before the carb....it was pretty dirty...had some sediment in it...going to try the boat tomorrow...i may pull the carb and take it to a mechanic if this doesn't solve anything
