Default Fuel Pump ?????

OK here is the deal. I am running twin 600HP motors in my 32 Fever.I have one motor that keeps burning up mallory 110 fuel pumps, like three in a year. Now both are mounted as low as possible and I have spoken with mallory techs and they say its because the pump is running dry.So I pressure tested all hoses and fittings and they are OK. Next I removed both pick ups from the fuel tank. The one causing the problem is 1-1/4" shorter then the other....Any reason for this???? And the long one is 1-1/2" off the bottom of the tank.Total tank height is only 10",so why are the pick ups different lenght and why so high off the bottom????Also no anti siphon valves or drain back valves in system. Now a few people say I should run a return line back to the tank with a pressure regulator. Can I just return the fuel to the inlet side of the fuel filter that is mounted before the pump? Also note pumps are on a relay with #10 wire to battery so Im sure voltage is not an issue.Any ideas of what I should look for and or try next?

Thanks Anthony

do you still have the anti-siph valves in place..if so they restrict badly, as long as you have enough fuel the lenth should not be a issue, but I would call fountain on that one...strange.....Rob

Anti siph valves were never installed in this boat for some reason.

You may have answered you own question. Elec. pumps are pushers and pull fuel poorly. That shorter pu may just be high enough to starve the pump. I would replace both pu's and install 3/8-1/2" off the bottom.
My Mallory is on it's 8th yr.

Change to Areomotive PN 11209 Problem solved. Assuming you are running Carbs. Teague makes and cool billet bracket for these pumps. The holly pumps are not as reliable as they used to be.
