Replaced the alternator why? Because of water intrusion? No way water is coming in the vents of a 240 while you are running unless you are taking serious waves over the bow. Take the hatch off and run it, then you can watch and see where the water is coming in from. Maybe there is a pinhole/split hose going to the port side exhaust riser that is spraying on the alternator.
How much water are you taking on?

Took a ride this eavning 1hour 4gallons of water the strainer was very wet I will get a friend to watch while under way i think it happens only when the water pick up is under much presure from speed. seemes to be mostly on the starboard side were the strainer and pump are.

Pressure tested the raw water line found two bolts gone on the hardin flange into pump with the oring hanging out and the bolt to bracket to the alt. missing I wonder what I pay my marina for just seems if you need somthing done rite do it yourself. last problem was a bad alt. and they left the lower bracket off and the belt loosened up and I overheated.

It seems you cant even pay to
have reairs done rite with out
refixing it yourself. Ive learned
to only pay the bill by credit card
so that you have some resouse if
the repair is not done rite.

That seems to be the case, more often than not. It's in your best interest to learn how to do things yourself, especially on an older boat or it will nickel and dime you to death. It also familiarizes you with your machine so that if you do have something go wrong on the water, if you have the tools and spare parts you can fix it yourself. Personally I don't understand how the average guy can afford to have routine maintenance done at marina shop rates.
